Skokie, IL, April 28 –
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC/Accreditation Association) announced today that the NOVA DENTAL Advanced Dental Center, San Jose, Costa Rica, is the first ambulatory organization to be accredited by the new AAAHC International accreditation program.
“The AAAHC goal is to improve the safety and quality of patient care. Our peer-based survey process and our comprehensive education programs make our accreditation unique, and enable us to work closely with ambulatory centers to assess their services and assure they provide high-quality care,” said John Burke, executive vice president and CEO of the AAAHC.
Approximately 95 percent of clients of the NOVA DENTAL Advanced Dental Center, a full-service dental clinic that specializes in cosmetic dentistry, are from the U.S., according to Luis Obando, D.D.S., NOVA DENTAL Advanced Dental Center.
“The accreditation process was a lot of work to get everything together to meet the standards, but in the end it helped to improve our clinical and administrative processes,” Obando said. NOVA DENTAL Advanced Dental Center received a three-year accreditation from the AAAHC.
The Accreditation Association launched its international accreditation program in Costa Rica, and other organizations in that country have begun the process toward AAAHC International accreditation. The AAAHC will add accreditation for ambulatory organizations in other countries soon.
The accreditation survey at NOVA DENTAL Advanced Dental Center was conducted by a team of U.S.-based AAAHC surveyors who are themselves active practitioners of ambulatory health care, including a dentist.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC/Accreditation Association), founded in 1979, is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation with nearly 5,000 organizations accredited nationwide.

The AAAHC accredits a variety of ambulatory health care organizations, including ambulatory surgery centers, office-based surgery centers, college student health centers, managed care organizations, military health care clinics, and large medical and dental practices.

The Accreditation Association serves as an advocate for the provision of high-quality health care through the development of nationally recognized standards and through its survey and accreditation programs.

AAAHC accreditation is recognized as a symbol of quality by third-party payers, medical organizations, liability insurance companies, state and federal agencies and the public. For more information, visit www.aaahc.org.

Dear Friends,
Some days ago we share with you that we are going through the process of accreditation of AAAHC. This is the most important accrediting organ for ambulatory health care in the United States. It is a very tough process and we are working hard on it.

For this purpose we were visited by Bruce Rogers, DDS, MBA, Past-President of AAAHC, and Meg Gravesmill, MBA. We thank them both, for their time and knowledge; and for helping us become a better team for the good of our patients. We will keep you inform about this process.

Dear Friends,
We want to congratulate Dr. Obando for his appearance in Costa Rican Newspaper La Republica. This was an article explaining how he and NOVA DENTAL Advanced Dental Center are pioneers in our country in the accreditation process of such a preeminent organization as AAAHC. (January 25 of 2010)

The AAAHC accreditation certificate is a symbol that an organization is committed to providing high-quality health care and that it has demonstrated that commitment by measuring up to the Accreditation Association’s high standards
