A Dental Filling is a dental restoration process commonly needed to rebuild the original or cosmetically enhanced form / integrity of a tooth. At Nova Dental we work with white fillings and metal-free materials. Tooth loss structure commonly from caries or external trauma. Dental filling is part of the Dental restoration which also refers to the replacement of missing tooth structure which is supported by dental implants. It can be divided into two types: direct restorations and indirect restorations. Those can also be clasified by location and size.
Without treatment by your dentist, dental decay may continue to advance. Extreme decay can result in the loss of the affected tooth or teeth, potentially preceded by great discomfort, infection and other health problems. There are many materials used for dental fillings. The Composite or resin is a mixture of acrylic resin and powdered glass-like particles that produce a tooth-colored filling. The color and shading can be matched to the existing tooth and the composite is a relatively strong material, providing good durability. They are generally used on either front or back teeth. This kind of procedure permits preservation of as much of the tooth posible. Another one is the glass ionomers which are tooth-colored materials made of a mixture of acrylic acids with fine glass powders that are used to fill cavities, particularly those on the root surfaces of teeth. It has a more realistic result with more natural colors.
Other techniques like the resin ionomers are also made from glass filler with acrylic acids and acrylic resin and used in fillings on non-chewing surfaces like baby teeth. One of the most common materials is the porcelain. Used in inlays, onlays, crowns and cosmetic veneers. The tooth is colored with an excellent translucency and it has also a good resistance to further decay. Finally the gold alloys which is the expensive filling treatment. It contains gold, copper and other metals that result in a strong, effective filling, crown or bridge.
When new fillings are placed in teeth or when old fillings are removed, there is a certain amount of leftover material that needs to be discarded.
